Amerigroup is now Wellpoint. New name. Same commitment to you.
Low- or no-cost health insurance for kids
Nothing is more important than keeping your kids healthy. We offer health-care benefits to children in Texas through the STAR (Medicaid) and CHIP programs. We also offer extra benefits just for our members.
What you get with Wellpoint
Choose your child’s doctor from the thousands in our plan, including many specialists. Your child can even visit a doctor through live video on your computer or smartphone with LiveHealth Online. It’s an easy way to get care anytime without leaving home.

Well-child visits are one of the best ways to help protect your child’s health. You won’t pay anything for these visits or the immunizations they need to stay healthy.

Your child’s benefits include hospital, urgent and emergency care.

Benefits include a wide range of prescription and some over-the-counter (OTC) drugs. We also offer home delivery services.

Your child gets dental benefits, like exams and cleanings, through a separate dental managed care organization.

Healthy eyes are an important part of good overall health. Your child’s vision benefits include eye exams and eyeglasses, if needed.

Health issues come up when you least expect them. You can get fast, free medical advice from a registered nurse anytime, day or night.

Wellpoint offers extra benefits just for our members! These include:
- Up to $50 per semester for a Boys & Girls Club membership for kids ages 6-18
- Free sports or school physical
- Rewards for doing healthy activities like getting certain checkups or treatments
- Allergy-free pillow cover for members with asthma ages 20 and younger

You can find a full list of extra benefits and specific benefit details, including exclusions and limitations in the member handbook. Visit the Wellpoint website for a copy.
